Indonesian Translator in Leicester
Need an Indonesian translator in Leicester? From about £35 per page, Prism Linguistics turns the akta kelahiran (birth certificate), the Kartu Keluarga family card, the buku nikah marriage book, ijazah degree certificates and Indonesian court judgments into certified English ready for a UKVI caseworker, the Home Office or a UK university. We also translate English letters into Indonesian.
Indonesian Translation Services in Leicester
The Indonesian document that puzzles UK readers most is the Kartu Keluarga, a family card from the civil registry that lists every member of a household and how each one is related to the head of the family. It isn't a birth certificate. It isn't a marriage certificate either. Because the whole household appears on one sheet, it often helps a caseworker see who belongs to whom.
The card is a grid (relationship, religion, education, occupation, marital status), and a careless English version turns it into a jumble. We keep the columns, so a reader can follow one person along a row.
Why do so many of these files reach us? Study, mostly. A British Council note based on LPDP annual reports says that between 2017 and 2021 the UK received more Indonesian scholars studying abroad than Australia, the Netherlands, the US, Japan or Germany. Where a course is government-sponsored and lasts over six months, the Home Office lets the student bring a husband, wife or children, and GOV.UK names a marriage certificate and a birth certificate as relationship evidence. The rest of our Indonesian translation services in Leicester go mainly to professionals on work visas, partners of British citizens, seafarers and domestic workers.
English to Indonesian Translator (and Indonesian to English)
Most of our Indonesian work runs into English, since the papers are issued in Indonesia and read by an official here. Those jobs go to native English speakers fluent in written Indonesian.
English to Indonesian translation is smaller but steady. A student's partner who has just had a baby may get a maternity discharge summary they'd rather study in their own language. A school sends a consent form. A solicitor needs a witness statement read back before the client signs. A native Indonesian speaker writes each one in standard Indonesian, the form every school in Indonesia teaches, rather than a regional language.
Certified Indonesian Translation for UKVI, Courts and Universities
What we issue as a certified Indonesian translation is the English version followed by a declaration of accuracy on Prism letterhead, which we sign, date and stamp. It arrives as a PDF, and an office that insists on paper gets a tracked copy. UKVI and the Home Office both take it, and it serves HMCTS, a UK university or HM Passport Office just as well.
That matches what GOV.UK asks for: the translator confirming in writing that it's a true and accurate version of the original, the date of translation, plus their name in full with contact details. Home Office guidance for students goes further and wants a translator or company it can verify independently. Planning to give notice of marriage? Your register office wants every non-English document translated, and proof of any divorce granted abroad.
Indonesia joined the Apostille Convention, which came into force for it on 4 June 2022. If a UK body asks for an apostille on an Indonesian document, getting one in Indonesia falls to you or your solicitor; it isn't a service we provide. We then translate the document with its apostille attached.
Indonesian Documents We Translate
- Indonesian birth certificate translation of the akta kelahiran, including late registrations made by court order and certificates reissued to add a father's name
- Indonesian marriage certificate translation: the buku nikah given to Muslim couples, or the religious and civil marriage certificates other couples receive
- legal document translation of divorce judgments, custody papers, powers of attorney and land certificates for family property
- immigration document translation of the Kartu Keluarga, KTP identity cards, sponsor letters, bank statements and employment records
- degree certificate translation of the ijazah and its transcript (transkrip nilai), usually for UK ENIC or a postgraduate admissions team
- medical document translation of childhood vaccination cards and clinic records, plus NHS letters into Indonesian
Indonesian Legal, Medical and Business Translation
Indonesian legal translation for UK clients is often divorce paperwork. Muslim couples divorce through the Religious Court (Pengadilan Agama) and others through the District Court (Pengadilan Negeri), so the court's name on a judgment matters to a registrar, and we give it in full rather than flattening both into divorce court. Employment claims are the other strand: a domestic worker or a fishing crew member may hold a contract, pay slips or months of messages in Indonesian, and a tribunal bundle needs it in English. There's more on our legal translation services page.
Indonesian medical translation runs both ways: vaccination histories from a puskesmas (a community health centre) for a GP or a school, and NHS letters going out in Indonesian. See medical translation services. For firms selling into Indonesia there's website translation.
Professional Indonesian Translators: Who Does the Work
A professional Indonesian translator has to handle names that don't fit UK forms. HM Passport Office guidance notes that Indonesia doesn't use the forename and family name pattern: surnames aren't legally recognised, nothing is inherited from a parent, and every part of a name counts as one given name. Since 2022 a newly registered name needs at least two words, but nobody with an existing single name had to change it. So an adult with one name meets an online form demanding a surname.
We don't solve that by inventing one. Names are copied from the passport letter for letter, and if your visa application split yours a particular way, mention it and a short translator's note can explain. Titles cause a similar wobble. Indonesian rules allow abbreviated educational, customary and religious titles on the KTP and family card, but not on civil registration certificates, so a degree abbreviation can follow a name on one paper and vanish on the next. It isn't part of the name, and our note says so.
A second linguist then checks every page against the source. Comparing agencies? Ask if a translator is an ITI or CIOL member.
How Much Does Indonesian Translation Cost in Leicester?
Certified Indonesian translation of one standard document, an akta kelahiran or a buku nikah, say, costs from about £35 per page. A divorce judgment or six months of bank statements, being longer, is priced by the word. Send scans on a weekday during British office hours and a fixed figure is normally with you inside an hour. Our translation cost page sets out the full pricing.
How Long Does an Indonesian Translation Take?
A short Indonesian certificate, a family card included, usually takes one to two working days from your go-ahead. Biometrics booked for later this week? Ask about same-day translation, available for short documents, subject to capacity. A transcript plus several certificates gets a delivery date agreed before work starts.
How to Order an Indonesian Translation in Leicester
- Photograph every page. A sharp colour scan or phone photo is enough, including the back of a KTP and each printed page of the buku nikah. Hold on to the originals; we work from copies.
- Give us the passport spellings. Write each person's name as the passport shows it, and say who will read the translation (UKVI, a register office, UK ENIC). A fixed price and a finish date follow.
- Confirm and receive. Your certified translation lands in your inbox as a PDF; a hard copy follows by tracked post when the reader wants paper.

Confidential Indonesian Document Translation
A Kartu Keluarga records a whole household in one place, religion and marital status included, so it deserves careful handling. The file for an Indonesian document translation is seen only by the people doing the job: whoever translates it, a second linguist who checks it, and the project manager who books the work. Files move over secure channels, and personal data is processed under UK GDPR rules.
About Leicester
Leicester is one of the larger cities in the Midlands, home to a genuinely diverse population and a busy commercial base. With so many languages spoken across its neighbourhoods, clear communication matters to almost every organisation working here. Solicitors and legal firms often need certified translations for immigration, family and civil matters. GP surgeries, health centres and clinics call on interpreters so patients can describe symptoms and understand treatment. Local authority and council teams, along with schools and colleges, support residents from many backgrounds day to day, and local businesses need their contracts and marketing understood abroad. Prism Linguistics helps with all of it. We offer certified document translation, face-to-face interpreting, and telephone and video interpreting across more than 300 languages. Each piece of work is completed by a qualified native-speaker linguist and then checked by a second linguist, which keeps standards consistent. Everything we handle stays confidential and compliant with UK GDPR. We arrange linguists throughout Leicester and the wider county area, on site or remotely, whichever suits the situation best.

Indonesian Translator Leicester FAQs
How much does Indonesian translation cost in Leicester?
For a standard Indonesian document, the certified rate is from about £35 per page; judgments and other long documents are charged per word. A scan sent in UK office hours usually brings a fixed quote within sixty minutes.
Can you certify an Indonesian translation for UKVI or the Home Office?
Indonesian translations we certify close with our accuracy statement on Prism letterhead, signed, dated, stamped and listing our contact details. UKVI accepts that, as does the Home Office, and the same signed document works for HMCTS, HM Passport Office or a UK university.
How quickly can you translate an Indonesian document?
An Indonesian birth certificate, buku nikah or family card normally takes one to two working days from your approval. For short items a same-day return is sometimes possible, subject to capacity, and bigger files get their own agreed date.
I only have one name. How will it appear on my translation?
Your name appears on the translation exactly as your passport shows it, one word if that is what the passport says. Indonesian law does not recognise surnames, so if a UK form recorded your name in two parts, let us know and a translator's note can explain the difference.
Do you translate English to Indonesian as well as Indonesian to English?
Yes. Native Indonesian speakers translate English material such as NHS, school and solicitor letters into Indonesian, and native English speakers with fluent Indonesian handle certificates going the other way. A second linguist checks both.
Is there an Indonesian translator near me in Leicester?
For written Indonesian your location hardly matters, and we keep no office in Leicester. Email or upload a scan and the certified PDF reaches your inbox; ask if you also want paper sent by tracked post.

About the Indonesian Language
Indonesian is written in the Latin alphabet, left to right, so nothing needs transliterating. Spelling has been reformed more than once, in 1947 and again in 1972, yet many personal names keep the older Dutch-influenced forms, oe for u or dj for j. A translator must leave those alone. Numbers trip people up too: Indonesian uses a full stop for thousands and a comma for decimals, so Rp1.500.000 on a bank statement is one and a half million rupiah, and a grade average of 3,52 on a transcript means 3.52.
