Kannada Translator in Cambridge
Need a Kannada translator in Cambridge? Prism Linguistics turns Kannada pahanis (the Karnataka land record also called the RTC), older town council birth and death entries, court orders, wills and school records into certified English that UKVI, HM Passport Office and probate solicitors can rely on. We also translate NHS letters into Kannada for parents visiting from Karnataka.

The Kannada document that needs most explaining is the pahani. It is Karnataka's land record for one survey number, officially the RTC (Record of Rights, Tenancy and Crops), showing who holds the land, any tenant, the class of land and what was grown on it. Karnataka's Bhoomi project began computerising these records in 2000, and every change of ownership now goes through a mutation under the Karnataka Land Revenue Act. One family file can hold a handwritten pahani, a Bhoomi printout and a mutation extract, with names that seldom agree.
Why would a pahani turn up in Cambridge? Often because someone here has died owning land there. HMRC's form IHT417 is where an estate reports assets outside the UK, and land in Karnataka counts. An executor's solicitor can't describe a field near Tumakuru from a Kannada page. Visiting parents are the other route: GOV.UK asks visitors to show their circumstances at home, and a pahani added to that bundle needs a full translation like any other Kannada page.
Our Kannada translation services in Cambridge also take in a municipal birth entry for a passport or a village school's transfer certificate. Degree certificates from Karnataka are usually in English already, so we'll tell you which pages truly carry Kannada.
English to Kannada Translator (and Kannada to English)
Kannada to English is the direction for land records, civil certificates and anything bound for a UK solicitor, HMRC or the Home Office. A native English speaker who reads Kannada fluently writes it, since the lawyer or caseworker relying on it has no Kannada.
English to Kannada translation mostly serves older parents. A mother staying for the summer can register with a GP as a temporary patient for up to three months, and the NHS says she won't need ID or proof of address to do so. Then the letters start. A referral, a blood test result, a prescription with morning and evening doses. Families forward those to us, NHS bodies send their own, and a native Kannada speaker writes them in the standard Kannada an older reader from Hubballi will expect.
Certified Kannada Translation for UKVI, Courts and Universities
On a certified Kannada translation, our letterhead declaration states that the English faithfully reflects the Kannada original; it is signed, dated, stamped and names the translator with contact details. GOV.UK lists those points for visa evidence and adds that the Home Office expects to be able to check a translation independently. UKVI and the Home Office accept it for visas, and so do HM Passport Office, HMCTS for court bundles and UK universities. You receive a PDF, and signed paper follows by tracked post for any office that insists.
The rule runs through the routes Karnataka families use. Under Health and Care Worker visa guidance, any document in a language besides English or Welsh needs a certified translation, Kannada pages included. HM Passport Office applies the same test to a first adult passport, and so does a visitor application.
A Karnataka certificate that already bears an Indian apostille gets the apostille translated along with the page. Obtaining one, or having a signature made here notarised for a land transfer in Karnataka, falls to you or your solicitor; we don't do it.
Kannada Documents We Translate
The Karnataka Local Authorities (Official Language) Act 1981 carried Kannada into the work of local bodies, so an older birth or death entry from a town council or village panchayat may be in Kannada from top to bottom, often by hand. What we translate for Karnataka families:
- Kannada legal document translation: pahanis (RTCs), mutation register extracts, partition and gift deeds, wills and court orders
- Kannada birth certificate translation, including handwritten entries from a municipal council or panchayat
- death certificates, for probate here and for estate paperwork in Karnataka
- Kannada marriage certificate translation, needed for a spouse visa or when notice of marriage is given
- school and college records: transfer certificates, marks cards and letters from schools that write in Kannada
- immigration document translation for visitor, dependant, settlement and citizenship files
- medical document translation into Kannada for a parent's ongoing care
Kannada Legal, Medical and Business Translation
Kannada legal translation is mainly land, wills and family disagreement. A Karnataka will might divide farmland among four children, or a partition deed split a survey number into hissas. When those reach a probate file or a financial remedy case here, our legal translation services keep survey and hissa numbers, extents and personal names exactly as the Kannada records them.
Kannada medical translation mostly runs into Kannada; see our medical translation services. Firms with customers or staff in Bengaluru can have Kannada web pages produced through our website translation team.
Professional Kannada Translators: Who Does the Work
Two linguists handle every Kannada job: a professionally qualified translator writing into their own first language, then a second linguist who compares the result with the Kannada. On a pahani that check is largely arithmetic. Karnataka writes land area in acres and guntas, forty guntas to the acre, so 2-20 means two and a half acres and not two point two. Where an older record uses Kannada's own digits, each figure is read twice.
Our Kannada translators expect questions. Before hiring anyone, ours too, you can check ITI or CIOL membership, and whether Karnataka revenue records are something they've translated before.
How Much Does Kannada Translation Cost in Cambridge?
A short Kannada certificate, such as a birth entry, costs from about £35 per page with the certificate of accuracy included, while wills, court orders and the longer property bundles go by the word. Scan it over during UK business hours and our fixed figure usually lands inside the hour. Our translation cost guide covers what pushes the figure up.
How Long Does a Kannada Translation Take?
Most short Kannada documents take one to two working days to translate and certify. With a passport appointment or a filing date close, ask about same-day translation, offered for short documents subject to capacity. A larger estate bundle is given a delivery date before work begins.
How to Order a Kannada Translation in Cambridge
- Scan both sides of each sheet. Keep every seal and endorsement in the frame, and tell us which office will read the English.
- Give us the passport spellings. Kannada records often cut a village and a father's name down to initials, so write out each person's names as their passport has them. A fixed price and a ready date come back to you.
- Approve, then download. The certified PDF reaches your inbox, and a signed hard copy travels by tracked post wherever paper is required.

Local businesses, especially those working across borders, rely on us for translation that reads correctly. Prism Linguistics offers certified document translation, face-to-face interpreting, and telephone and video interpreting in more than 300 languages, matched to each situation. Kannada Translator Cambridge FAQs
How much does Kannada translation cost in Cambridge?
Certified Kannada translation of a one-page certificate, such as a birth entry or marriage record, is charged from about £35 per page, while wills, court orders and other long papers are priced per word. If your scan arrives during UK office hours, expect a fixed price within roughly an hour.
Can you certify a Kannada translation for UKVI or the Home Office?
Yes, Prism certifies Kannada translations for UKVI and the Home Office. Each one carries a signed and stamped accuracy declaration on Prism letterhead, dated, with the translator named in full, and families use these in visitor, work, settlement and citizenship applications, for HM Passport Office and in HMCTS proceedings.
How quickly can you translate a Kannada document?
A short Kannada document is usually translated, certified and returned in one to two working days after your yes. A single page can sometimes be done the same day when capacity allows, and a long estate bundle runs to a timetable we fix together.
Do I need to send my original Kannada documents?
No, a sharp photo of each page works for translation. Keep the originals safe, though, because HM Passport Office expects original certificates with an application and other offices may ask to inspect them too.
Do you translate English to Kannada as well as Kannada to English?
Yes, we translate in both directions. Kannada to English work is written by a native English speaker who reads Kannada fluently, English to Kannada work by a native Kannada speaker, and a second linguist checks both. Many English to Kannada jobs are NHS and care letters for parents.
My Kannada records show my name with initials. How will the translation spell it?
A certified Kannada translation spells your name exactly as your passport does. Many Karnataka records put initials for a village and a father's name ahead of the given name, so the English mirrors the passport and a short translator's note explains any record that shows the name another way.

About the Kannada Language
Kannada uses an abugida of its own, read from left to right, in which vowel signs attach to consonants. Its letters look much like Telugu ones and the scripts are close cousins, but the languages are separate, and a Telugu reader is the wrong person to translate a Kannada deed. On paperwork, names cause more trouble than the script. Many Kannada names open with initials for a home village and the father's name: the former prime minister H. D. Deve Gowda is Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda in full. UK forms want a first name and a surname, families split names like these differently on their passports, and the certified English must match the passport to the letter.
